Soap Nuts Made Easy!

This may be the most elementary, yet most important post on SoapNuts.Pro. Let us get right to the heart of what the heck a soap nut is, and lift the veil of mystery surrounding them. Please note that this segment is focused on only the VERY basics of what soap nuts are and what they do in the broadest sense. We’ll get much more detailed and into more history, benefits, economics, uses, botany, science, FAQs, and much, much more throughout this site. However, let’s first understand soap nuts at a purely conceptual level. It is SO simple. Soap nuts offer us a better, greener way to clean. They produce soap. Period.

We’ve already discussed some basic history and the number P & G, Colgate and others have done to our heads – how they have literally brainwashed us. Now that we are waking up to the fact that we have OTHER options that do not come out of their labs, we can explore those options. Soap nuts are one of those options.

I am intentionally skipping ALL the nuances at this point that only create confusion and debate. Some statements and terms will be technically wrong – but VERY true and purposeful in understanding the fundamental concept. The sole purpose of this article is to help change HOW we think – to open up parts of our brains that have been clouded and stifled due to a lifetime of programming by big business. This is not an article that will nit-pick details. We will deal with those specifics, and separate facts and myths later. For now, we are taking the bird’s eye view of the situation.

“So, what are soap nuts?” Nature’s soap. Plain and simple. And what does all soap do? It cleans things. Now, we have just connected soap nuts to cleaning. We are on our way! Hence, what do soap nuts do? They clean things!

Don’t worry about HOW just yet. What is critical is to fully understand and accept is that soap nuts can replace virtually ALL synthetic, commercial chemical cleaners in our homes. You can keep your laundry and home wonderfully clean, fresh and bacteria free – and never purchase another commercial detergent, bottle of Windex or canister of Comet ever again! A bag full of soap nuts can replace them all. This is our paradigm shift – and the beginning of our deprogramming.

Think of soap nuts this way: They are Mother Nature’s soap. It doesn’t come out of a chemical processing plant. She just grows it on trees. “How is this possible?” Well, Mother Nature can do whatever she wants. She doesn’t get paid for it, nor does she advertise that she is doing it. No different than accidentally discovering fire, thousands of years ago man discovered a fruit that produced lather. What does lather do? It facilitates the cleaning process. So, what did man discover about soap nuts? They clean things!

“I thought it was a detergent?” Well, what does a detergent do? It cleans things. “Okay, so is it a soap or detergent?” Both. For the purpose of changing HOW we think, this really doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is that our brains accept that soaps, detergents, cleansers and cleaners DO NOT need to be manufactured. The ONLY really important question at this point is: What do they do? And the answer is: THEY CLEAN THINGS!

“Where do they come from?” Trees. Easy enough. For the sake of even more simplicity, let’s not get hung up on the “nut” thing either. We’ll deal with that later, too. It causes confusion and is immaterial at the moment. Also, let’s just call them Soap Trees. (Isn’t this really getting easy?) Most trees produce seeds that enable them to start growing baby trees. Right? Who cares if the seed is a fruit, nut, berry or an acorn? If you take a handful of whatever they are – and can lather up with them – wouldn’t it be a soap? Of course! Well, that is EXACTLY what soap nuts do. I hope that you are asking, “You mean there are trees that actually produce soap?” The answer is unequivocally – YES!

Have we changed a little in HOW we think yet? Do we realize that all soaps and detergents don’t need to be manufactured, or even made at home? Do we realize that Mother Nature has her OWN ready-to-use “brand” of soap? Many natural cleansers have been around ages before the first soap factory ever broke ground? Soap nuts simply do it EXCEPTIONALLY well.

“So, where have soap nuts been all this time?” Again, Mother Nature doesn’t work for profit – that’s WHY they are new to us – particularly those of us in Europe and North America. Relatively speaking we are the new kids on the block. It is mainly ancient Far Eastern cultures that have the most knowledge regarding uses for soap nuts. People from the world’s most powerful ancient cultures figured out their own ways to make and profit from producing other types of soap centuries ago. There was no motivation to find alternatives. Everybody was happy, and money began pouring in. Be assured that if Mother Nature was in it for the money her cleaning products would be on store shelves across the globe.

As an Asian Indian gentleman explained to me: His family knows soap ONLY as soap nuts. They grew up with them. Be it to bathe, wash clothes, clean jewelry, or whatever – when they start cleaning, they break out the soap nuts.

Go get yourself some soap nuts. Put a handful of them in a wash bag or just wrap them up in a washcloth. Get them totally wet with warm water and start rubbing. Guess what? You are going to start to see lather and suds. And what does that mean? That’s right!

So, soap nuts grow on trees and they produce soap. They clean things. Understand THAT and the rest is easy. Soap nuts are an option that we have. We can change and get on a path to a new, healthier, greener age. Understand your options and choose what’s best for you.

We are in the beginning stages of a new,  “green” age. There are many age-old – and greener – ways to do many of the things we do every day. Cleaning is only one of them. So, understand all your options. Soap nuts are simply a great one to know about. Decide for yourself. Freedom of choice has just taken a quantum leap from deciding which commercial brand should you buy.
